Charlie’s Portobello Road Café, London

This cafe has taken over the little courtyard space at the start of Portabello Road, the one that you enter after slipping past the dire Scottish tourist store (which somehow makes a roaring trade even though those tourists aren’t in Scotland…)
The decor has had a huge overhaul and now everything feels clean and tidy and fresh. The staff are well presented and friendly, and the large ceilinged split floor dinning area somehow seems bigger now.
They have a separate area for large groups away from the other diners, as well as outside tables, which I think gives you more than enough choice!
The baked goods are great here (white chocolate and raspberry muffin anyone?) and the coffee is smooth. Charlie’s pride themselves on local produce, their website even touts the light fittings and table settings, including cups, as being locally sourced! Now that is attention to detail!
