Queen Victoria Bulding, Sydney

The QVB is one of Sydney’s historical buildings that was almost lost the booming industry of the 80’s. She was dilapidated and neglected for a number of years, just another eyesore in the centre of the city. It took an offer of a 99 year lease by a foreign company to stop the proposed demolition as the Australian government once again lost power over a significance piece of history. In 1986 the refurbishment was finished, 26 million dollars later the Romanesque building was revealed.
This is now one of the most visited shopping centres in the city, with mostly mainstream high end stores, large viewing areas spanning three stories and a restored ballroom (not on display to the public, but used for private hire).
A truly beautiful building and now an accurate reflection of its original glory of 1898.
