Edinburgh – Eating & Drinking – Pubs & Bars – Bars – Eating & Drinking – Pubs & Bars – Pubs
There is a handful of things I will expect from my jazz bar of choice, and after living in New York I quickly discovered some things are down right deal clinchers.
So I like it to be a bit hidden (dark is the key- black out he windows if you must!)so the stairs to the basement venue at the Jazz Bar do it just right. Also conveniently ensuring no crude light of day (or eventhe street lights at night) touch the musicians, otherwise I think they turn into pumpkins.
Another is a laid back bartender. There have been a few over the years, but one less inclined to chat it better.
Tables and candles- a must. The Jazz Bar has a few too many, however when your hemmed in by toe jigglers and the music is just right, you have forgotten that you wanted to stretch your legs till the end anyway.
The final element is some interesting folk about. This box is also ticked, as the rule of thumb seems ot be if you’ve got ears then you’re welcome.
