Dublin castle in Dublin 2

Yes, I eventually did the tour of the castle. Saw the stately rooms and went deep underneath to see the watery remains of the original moat. It was fairly standard as far as castle tours go, but I was left wondering what was happening in the other 4/5 of the castle grounds that we didn’t get access to.
I have such mixed feelings about Dublin castle. It’s literally slam in the middle of town, and yet hidden, part of it open, others left for more official business, but none of it with any imposing regal quality.
Years ago I went to a concert here and the vibe was great. Really they should have it as a regular venue (obviously for the summer…) With the court yard lit creatively and coloured projections on the walls, I really had the sense of what it would have been like to be a part of a royal party back in the day- the castle on display and everyone letting their hair down. For me, that is the real spirit of Dublin castle, the musty rooms left asleep and the locals kicking up their heals outside!
